State Investigators are accusing an engineer for the negligent construction of airport hangars which cost the city over $2.5 million.  While more must be done to determine actual fault, if any, in both the hangars’ design and construction, these questions will not precipitate endless finger-pointing.  As for now, however, the cost of the failed project rests with the taxpayers.

Defective Construction - Common Issues for Purchasers

Such is the plight of a homeowner or property owner that pays for new construction, or even the purchaser of a previously constructed home or building who’s left to deal with the fall out from shoddy construction or materially deficient design.   When it comes to the negligent construction and design of structures, the question of what causes their defects is often a difficult one to parse out.  Determining cause and fault is almost never clear-cut.  Additionally, most of these cases turn into a battle of blame, where one subcontractor tries to blame another.

Costly To Defend or Prosecute

With such determinations, come the expenses of hiring consultants and other experts.  The issues involved in such cases can be complex and made even more so when the “injury” becomes compounded (i.e. negligently constructed pipes that cause an underground water leak which causes the formation of mold which causes the inhabitants to get sick).   It’s important that the home or property owner knows what resources they have at their disposal to help bear such costs and, if need be, help recoup the costs related to repairs or new construction arising out of those defects.  As the costs for participating in these kinds of matters grow substantially like this, it is likely only the most costly, and the most likely to recover, will be pursued.
