Shirley W. Whittle, Esq.

Areas of Practice

Shirley W. Whittle devotes her practice to the arena of clients dealing with construction-related disputes, including her representation of owners, contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and others in the construction field. In her practice, she deals with both forensic and design related problems, including subsequent damage caused by natural perils including sinkholes, hurricanes, and water damage.

In her prior representation of large insurance companies, Shirley was routinely hired to represent people involved in personal injury cases, including injuries occurring on the property of others, electrocutions, slip and falls, and defective products.

Personal Biography

“Contractors are just gladiators with hammers. Getting involved in these fights is I what I love, duking it out over who didn’t do what, and what do we do now.”

After leaving a CPA firm for law school, this former tax preparer has logged more than a decade of legal experience. And as a lawyer with money-sense, Whittle now uses her know-how to primarily look after the complicated field of construction defect litigation.

“Construction litigation is a very aggressive area of the law, when owners and contractors duke it out over who built what and why.”

While she doesn’t like the board game version, Whittle says she’s constantly playing courtroom chess where every move involves strategy and foresight to benefit the client. “I love to see each case come together and it feels good knowing you’re doing the right thing for the client.” And, in cases involving people who have been injured, these skills are invaluable, as these cases require patience, dedication, and a team effort with the client.

Growing up in the Midwest, and later attending law school at Washington University in St. Louis, Whittle spent time in California, as a true “LA Lawyer.” She trained at the premier boutique firm of Kring & Chung, an Orange County firm handling construction-related lawsuits. She later found her way to Florida, where she honed her skills in personal injury cases, while continuing to demonstrate her skills in cases involving contractors and owners.

Big Sports Fan

A Midwest native, Whittle enjoys an escape from work by heading north. She’s a frequent mountain tourist who likes a fire on a cold winter night as much as the sun and beaches available year-round in Florida. She’ll also try to work in horseback riding wherever it’s available.

But, Whittle is a sports fan first, and uses to this continue with her competitive spirit. “St. Louis Cardinals remain my home team, regardless of where I am.” She does love the team people love to hate, the New York Yankees, and the many players that get paid well there.

What’s on your bookshelf?

James Patterson’s Women’s Murder Club series; as an avid reader, Whittle enjoys almost any murder mystery.
